St. Simon’s Church walk

Each year the priest, Fr. Willy Slavin and some members of St. Simon’s Roman Catholic Church, Partick, Glasgow, walk from their Church to the David Livingstone Centre Blantyre, a distance of 14 miles.  This remembers two things; the role that their founding priest, Fr. Daniel Gallagher played in assisting Livingstone in learning Latin to a suitable level to enable matriculation in Medicine; and the fact that Livingstone used to make this walk twice every weekend while studying medicine to enable him to work in the mill on the Saturday and attend Church in Hamilton on the Sunday.

This year, their tenth walk, they were joined by the minister, Rev’d. Derek Corner.  It is hoped that in the Bicentenary Year members of other URC or Congregational Churches may be able to join them for the walk.
