Passion Play Lanarkshire.
On Saturday 31st March at 2pm volunteer actors from Hamilton’s churches ( and beyond) will perform ‘Resurrection’ a Passion Play telling the story of the final week of Jesus life, at the Bottom Cross, Castle Street. For the last five months people have been learning parts under the direction of Liz Blackman, so that by Easter Saturday they will be able to share the gospel in a creative way, out on the streets, with the people of the local community. Liz came to join us in worship at Hamilton URC in November and told us about the origins of Passion Plays as a way of ordinary people learning the story of Jesus back in the Middle Ages when services were held in Latin. Lindsey has a small part as a Greek woman who has travelled to Jerusalem for the Passover with her son and she meets Jesus in the Temple. The most famous Passion Play in the world is held every ten years in Oberammagau, our production is on a much lesser scale but still has the same purpose of sharing the story of Jesus out on the streets, rather than behind church doors. The performance lasts 90 minutes. It will be outdoors, and there will be some seating for the audience.
