The Windermere Centre
The U.R.C. ‘home from home’.
The Windermere Centre is the United Reformed Church’s resource centre in the Lake District. Accommodation consists of 32 beds in a total of 21 en-suite rooms. The Hannah Wing provides specially adapted accommodation for those with disabilities, and also a carer. A stair lift links to the first floor. There is a comfortable television lounge, a garden room which doubles as a chapel, and a conference room. Additional facilities are available in the nearby Carver Church premises.
Food is of a particularly high standard, matching many 3-star hotels. Travel is relatively easy, with a rail link from Windermere to Oxenholme to meet mainline services.
Take Your Partners.
The Centre runs a large number of courses; some of which are of a spiritual nature; and many of which are craft orientated. Other courses are simply to assist ‘relaxing and recharging the batteries’. There is also an on-line Bible Study Series.
At times two courses will run in parallel, so couples could attend courses suitable for differing tastes.
The Centre also has a small shop selling Traidcraft Goods, Carvings, cards and books.
Groups can book The Centre, and staff are available to resources courses if requested.
A more recent innovation is the availability of Bed and Breakfast accommodation, which is priced at much the same level as local residences.
For those who might feel that costs will prevent their attending courses, The Hannah Fund can assist in subsiding course fees.
You do not have to belong to the United Reformed Church to use The Centre. And no – it does not have a scary churchy atmosphere!
